　　中國普遍有一種傳統心理，覺得有房才有家。擁有一間屬于自己的小窩，哪怕再小也能感覺踏實，仿佛也有了一份歸屬感和家的感覺。正因為這樣，近年來中國的房產市場才會如此火爆，買房成為很多人的一生奮斗的目標。但其實在國外，大多數人可能終生都沒有自己的房子，而是會選擇租房。如果他們在一個地方呆久了膩了，可以隨時退掉租來的房子，搬到另一個地方，非常灑脫。下邊就是一位英國留學生講述的關于英國人對房子的觀念及看法。

　　我在英國的租住的第一個地方，房東是我們公司市場部的一個品牌經理，一個三十歲左右的單身女人。

　　她的房子是一套聯排別墅，兩層。門前只有一個很小的花園，因為她沒有時間打理;后面是個小院子，用于晾曬衣服。一樓是會客廳，起居室和廚房。二樓有四間房，最大一間她自己住，然后兩間臥室分別租給我和一個大學生，還有一間書房，比較小，緊挨著她的房間。入住當天，她說除了她和另一個租客的房間，其他房間我隨便進入和使用，只要保持整潔就好了。水電費都全包在房租里了。我當天就發現，每個睡房都沒有門栓，我們都只能虛掩房門而睡，這個包括房東自己的房間。很顯然，她買這個房子本是自住，可能也沒想過要去為陌生的租客們改裝一下門鎖吧。

　　我原來覺得，工作和房子都是天大的事。換成中國人，這樣的夫妻怎么都得兩地分居一段時間再從長計議，但這對于她來說竟然是在一個求婚后的周末就決定了。這房子說賣就賣，看來誰也沒想過和房子過上一輩子呢。

　　關于房子的事，后來終于聽到了真正英國人的版本。朋友帶我去看望她住在名城York(約克)郊外的一套cottage(農家小別墅)的父母。農家小院只有一層，客廳加三個臥室，房子前后都是很大的花園草地，除了老兩口的房間外，另外兩個房間都收拾成客房，等成年子女或客人來的時候可以過夜。我去做客的時候，問老人家，你們一定在城里還有房子吧?老人打開了話匣子：“這個房子是退休后才買的，房貸是三十年。這是我們第四套房子了，不過我們從來就沒擁有過房子。剛結婚，我們買了一套兩房的，生了一個孩子后就換成三房，再生一個又換成四房。現在他們都離開家了，我們也退休了，就換成郊外的三房，圣誕節都回來也是夠住哦。每次的房貸都是三十年，就這么一直換著，供著，卻從來沒有擁有過。現在我們估計到死也不會擁有一套房子啦!”老人家說著說著，爽朗地大笑起來。
